Course Overview
The IKON Institute is one of the few specialist organisations in Australia offering Arts Psychotherapy at a Graduate Diploma level and is a leading provider of best practice models of art therapy.

This Graduate Diploma is a specialised, vocational qualification and is suitable for those with an existing undergraduate degree qualification in an associated field (eg. counselling, diversional therapy, psychology, social work, community services, nursing, occupational therapy, allied health care) as well as professional practitioners in associated fields, who wish to build upon and broaden their existing knowledge and skills and gain practical expertise in the specialised field of Arts Psychotherapy.

Visual art training or experience with art is NOT necessary.

The Graduate Diploma of Arts Psychotherapy will provide students with new and/or additional expertise in arts psychotherapy sessions and the confidence to integrate this into professional practice, leading to a Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification.

Delivery Format
The course is delivered through a combination of facilitated class based delivery and practical tutorial sessions.
Students are required to attend one day and one 3 hour evening tutorial per week.

  • Students should allow for a minimum of 6 hours per week of self directed learning.

Professional recognition
The course meets the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) guidelines and satisfies the requirements for student membership with ACATA.  Graduates are also eligible to join the Australian Association of Holistic and Transpersonal Counsellors (AHHTC) and work in industry or as private practitioners.

Depending on the entry criteria at the relevant university, and individual applications, students may be eligible for entry into further studies.
